World AIDS Day 2007 Women's Event

On Dec 1st at 12pm the radio perfomance "Songs in the Blood" will have its premiere broadcast on Radio Adelaide 101.5FM. It is a collection of very powerful & moving stories written by HIV positive and affected women in SA. The women worked with the HIV Women's Project SA & Adelaide writer, Elizabeth Mansutti to document their unique experiences as women living with HIV/AIDS.

Preventing Cervical Cancer

Great news for young women and girls in Australia - a new vaccine that can protect them against the cause of most cervical cancers.

The vaccine protects women against certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which are known to cause 7 out of 10 cases of cervical cancer and 9 out of 10 cases of genital warts.

Starting in April 2007, the Australian Government will be providing the new vaccine free to all women and girls aged between 12 and 26 through the National HPV Vaccination Program.

Women may need not wait to conceive after breast cancer

Young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer need not wait the recommended two years after treatment before attempting to conceive, says a study published today on the British Medical Journal's website.

Women's Health Action Plan released

The Women's Health Policy committed the South Australian health system to developing yearly action plans to translate the Policy into action. The Women's Health Action Plan, developed in consultation with key stakeholders, is a strategic response which will assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of health services to women in South Australia.

Gender Indicators Online

The Office for Women has announced a new website which will help monitor changes in the status of women across South Australia

Gender Indicators Online (GIO) will ensure policy makers across Government have access to information which reflects the position and situation of women and men in the community.

The website www.aisr.adelaide.edu.au/gio provides a diverse range of statistics that are easily accessible to Government departments to help in the development and implementation of gender sensitive policies and to inform Government decision making.

Our Commitment to Women's Safety in South Australia sets out the State Government's strategy for tackling this violence, the initiatives to be taken over the next 6 months and a framework for responding to violence against women in South Australia over the next five years.
